Alaska Christmas Traditions

Happy Christmas!
We are Bernie and Tammy Jarriel, owners of Great Land Bracelets located in Alaska. We have several traditions that we carry on each Christmas season.
The Christmas Story
Our first tradition start many years before when we were first married. We read the Christmas Story from the Bible (Luke 1) the night of Christmas Eve before we turn in for the evening, and then we read of the birth of Christ (Luke 2:1-21) first thing Christmas morning.
Ornaments that tell a story
Our second tradition started in 2005 when we first moved to Alaska. Each year we collect at least one locally made Christmas ornament dated with the current year. These are typically some reference to the location we are living at the time or some reminder of an event that we participated in that year.
Of course, another one of our favorite Christmas traditions is Christmas Dinner.
We have included a Salmon Dip Recipe that is just delicious from Chinook Company
Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Dip
Yields 2 Cups
Ingredients:
1 - 7.5oz can Chinook & Company salmon
1 - 8oz package of cream cheese
¼ cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons shallots - finely chopped
3 tablespoons red bell pepper - finely chopped
2 tablespoons dill - roughly chopped
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
½ teaspoon kosher salt
Preparation:
Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until combined. Remove lid and scrape down the
bowl of the processor and pulse again until all ingredients have been incorporated.
Serve with crackers or cut up veggies.
Have a Merry Christmas!
